Corsicana Mattress will close its factory in Olive Branch, Miss., in October.

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. – Bedding manufacturer Corsicana Mattress Co. will close its 370,000-square-foot Symbol Mattress factory here in October as part of its ongoing restructuring plan impacting 52 employees.

The factory became part of Corsicana’s manufacturing footprint in April 2021, as part of the Corsicana acquisition of Symbol. The company said production from the factory will be shifted to company factories in Corsicana, Texas; Shelbyville, Tenn.; and Bartow, Fla.

“This realignment is necessary to continue transforming our manufacturing footprint to become more agile and operationally effective,” said Eric Rhea, Corsicana Mattress CEO. “We are investing heavily in our Corsicana, Shelbyville and Bartow facilities and have the capacity and ability to effectively service our customers in the Southern region. We greatly appreciate the support from the local community and employees as we make this transition.”

Corsicana filed for Chapter 11 protection with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in June. Prior to the filing, the company announced in May that it would close a boxed bed factory in LaPorte, Ind., and followed that announcement with the June news that it would close a former Symbol facility in Richmond, Va..

“Streamlining our business is necessary to continue as the industry’s value-priced bedding leader and part of our plan as we near our emergence from the Chapter 11 restructuring process,” Rhea said.

Last week, a bankruptcy judge gave the go-ahead for the company to sell to stalking horse bidder Blue Torch Finance.
