This year, Memorial Day lands on May 30, but the deals are already available right now. The overwhelming majority of Memorial Day sales tend to lean on non-tech deals like large and small appliances, clothing, kitchen, and sporting goods. For the tech savvy deal hunter, however, this is one of the best times of year to score deals on PCs (laptops and desktops), especially from OEM manufacturers like Dell, Lenovo, and HP. Generally, you won't find better prices on these categories until Black Friday.
Move over Black Friday. When it comes to Dell, the best deals don't come in November, but right here and right now in May. The Dell Memorial Day Sale has always offered the best deals you could find on Alienware gaming PCs and gaming laptops, and this year looks to be no different. Memorial Day lands on Monday, May 30 this year, but the Dell Memorial Day Sale has actually already started. Some deals are available now with more deals becoming available each day up to Memorial Day proper.
Amazon doesn't push a Memorial Day sale as aggressively as other vendors, but that doesn't mean the Amazon Memorial Day sale isn't worth looking at. Not only does Amazon do an excellent job of price matching other merchants' discounts, they have several great deals that aren't specifically marketed as a Memorial Day special. For example, the Sony Days of Play event is also running now, and Amazon is offering some outstanding deals on PS5 controllers and games. There's also the new 42" LG C2 Evo OLED TV that was just released, and Amazon has it for the lowest price.
Walmart has its Memorial Dage page live on its site. Walmart, like Amazon, tends to focus on non-tech deals as part of its Memorial Day Sale. Keep an eye out for a sprinkling of good TV deals. If you're into working out, expect to see some deals on fitness items as well.
Walmart has confirmed its latest PS5 stock drop will occur on June 2 as part of its post-Memorial Day sales and Walmart+ weekend. In case this is your first rodeo, only Walmart+ members will get access to new PS5 stock this time around.
If you haven't got a Walmart+ account just yet, it costs $98/ year or there is a $12.95/ month alternative. But, it's worth noting that you will not be able to access the PS5 drop via a free trial membership, so you'll need to have an active paid Walmart+ subscription to participate.
Lenovo doesn't host as many sales as some of the other PC vendors, but they still have some solid deals for Memorial Day. In particular, look for big markdowns on the Lenovo Legion gaming PC lineup, especially the newer models with Intel Alder Lake processors and RTX 30 series video cards. The Lenovo Legion gaming desktops are often very highly rated for their build quality. People generally like the fact that Lenovo does not use proprietary components in their rigs, so future upgradeability is much easier done here than in other prebuilt PCs. Lenovo gaming rigs also boast adequate cooling, especially for the CPU, even if you opt for the base models.
Not do be outdone by Dell or Lenovo, HP also has some solid deals on gaming PCs for Memorial Day. For 2022, HP has updated its gaming lineup with two new models. The HP Victus is a budget oriented gaming PC that offers RTX 30 series power at a fantastic price point, The HP OMEN 40L and 45L are updates over the previous generation's 25L and 30L. The new models have a larger chassis volume and twin (40L) or triple (45L) intake fans for better airflow. The 45L goes even further by placing a 360mm liquid cooling system externally above the case dubbed the "Cryo Chamber". That allows for cooling that rivals enthusiast DIY systems. Components wise, both the 40L and 45L are equipped with the newest Intel Alder Lake processor, Z690 motherboard and RTX 30 series video card.
Gamestop actually held a Memorial Day Sale last year in 2021. It ran one week before Memorial Day proper and included some great deals on video games (especially pre-owned games) and accessories. We expect the same this year. There weren't any standout gaming console deals last year but we're hoping we'll see a discount on one of the current gen console like the Nintendo Switch or Xbox Series S this year.
Memorial Day lands on Monday, May 30 although many Memorial Day sales have gone live now. You'll find all manners of tech deals on Memorial Day, but the best deals will be on gaming PCs and laptops, TVs, and toys like LEGOs and board games. Unfortunately it's unlikely that the PS5 will go on sale specifically because of Memorial Day (the Xbox Series X is currently in stock at Microsoft direct). However Sony's Days of Play event starts around the same time period and the sale for that event kicks off on May 25. That could potentially mean a return of PS5 stock from select vendors like PlayStation direct.
