Fourth of July weekend is here! Along with fun family activities and an all-American summer cookout, the holiday is also a great time to shop for a new mattress.

If you've been in the market for a mattress upgrade, you're in luck. While you may not typically think of July 4th as a shopping holiday, this year's July 4th mattress deals are rivaling the Memorial Day sales we saw a few months ago. In fact, some of our all-time favorite mattresses backed by the Good Housekeeping Institute's expert product tests — ones that come in a box, those that are good for back pain and even air mattresses and mattress toppers — are on sale right now.

In a word: Yes! "July 4th is a great time to buy a mattress," says Lexie Sachs, executive director of the Textiles, Apparel and Paper Lab at the Good Housekeeping Institute — a.k.a. our resident mattress and bedding expert. "Because July 4th is a major shopping holiday with plenty of sales to choose from, mattress brands offer more competitive discounts to try and earn your business."

Any time a top mattress brand offers a discount above 10% off, we consider it a great sale. Mattresses prices are often so high that even a seemingly small percentage off could mean hundreds in savings. Some of the best July 4th mattress sales of 2022 are from Cocoon by Sealy (35% off), Nolah (30% off) and Allswell (20% off). Plus, Casper and Tempur-Pedic are having rare closeout sales with discounts up to 40% off — more details below. Sachs added that "Nolah, Casper and Tempur-Pedic are all top-preforming brands in our evaluations, so if you can snag them at 30-40% off, then it's an amazing deal."

Below, check out the best July 4th mattress sales of 2022.

$1,770.00 $1,570.00 (12%, or $200, off) The Saatva Classic Mattress was named the best overall mattress by mattress experts and consumer product testers at the Good Housekeeping Institute. In our evaluations, the mattress consistently gets high scores for comfort and support as well as praise from our consumer panel, especially from those who have owned the bed for more than five years, because it holds up well over time. For their 4th of July sale, Saatva is offering a spend more, save more model: take $200 off purchases of $900 - $2,249, $250 off purchases up to $2,499, $300 off purchases up to $2,999, $350 off purchases up to $3,499, $400 off purchases up to $3,999, and $450 off purchases of $4,000 or more.

The Good Housekeeping Institute also ranked Saatva's mattress topper as the best overall mattress topper of 2022. Now through July 4, Good Housekeeping readers can take 15% off all Saatva mattress toppers by shopping through our exclusive link. Without this link, Saatva mattress toppers are full price. According to expert testing at the Good Housekeeping Institute, the best type of mattress for back pain is one with medium firmness so there's an even balance between soft and firm, and contains at least some layers of foam for pressure relief and body contouring. The Evolution Hybrid mattress from Nolah checks off those boxes, so in turn, it promotes proper spine alignment and can help alleviate back pain. It's also one of the most-discounted mattresses during July 4th mattress sales.

Tuft & Needle mattresses are affordable (most models are $1,000 or less), but they still provide solid support for all types of sleepers thanks to their proprietary and innovative adaptive foam. We especially love the cooling properties that differentiates their adaptive foam from other memory foam mattresses — graphite and ceramic gel are added to the foam to help pull away body heat. It also has great edge support that prevents you from sinking in, even when you get close to the sides.

$699.00 $559.00 (20% off with promo code: FIREWORKS20)

Allswell consistently gets high ratings from the Good Housekeeping Institute's expert product test, especially compared to mattresses at at a similar affordable price point. One user described it by saying, "this mattress is supportive and plush, and it feels like a fancy hotel bed," while another raved, "It feels like sleeping on a real, plush hotel mattress, but at a fraction of the price." It's also worth noting that Allswell's pricing has remained fairly low and consistent, while mattress prices overall have surged due to COVID-related supply chain issues.

As with all things for your home, Wayfair has become an increasingly popular destination for mattress shopping. Wayfair Sleep, the site's very own line of beds and bedding accessories, is a reliable and budget-friendly option for shoppers looking for anything from a brand new mattress, to an adjustable bed frame, or just a set of sheets. Although the experts in GHI haven't tested, the brand's 10" memory foam mattress has nearly 50,000 rave reviews (the average rating is 4.7 stars!), and it's only $200 during Wayfair's 4th of July sale.

Casper revolutionized the mattress industry with their mattress-in-a-box model. While many have replicated this approach, the original Casper mattress is still one of the most popular mattresses to buy online. It has gone through some updates since it first launched, and now includes unique layers that makes it stand out from the rest: a stretchy knit cover, a layer of Casper's signature AirScape (perforated foam for breathability), memory foam with Zoned Support (meaning it's softer under your shoulders and firmer under your lower back and hips for proper spine alignment) and a supportive base foam to prevent sinking and sagging.

Note: During July 4th, Casper also has a rare final sale clearance section with discounts up to 40% off select mattresses and up to 50% off select bedding.

Most mattresses don't come cheap. If you're feeling the sticker shock, consider Zinus. They make some of the most affordable mattresses available online and are very popular among Amazon reviewers (not to mention convenient—Zinus mattresses are usually eligible for fast, free shipping). More than 23,000 people stand behind their best-selling 12" memory foam mattress. One reviewer said it is "hands-down the best thing I've ever bought on Amazon."

The Chime 12" mattress by Ashley Furniture is another option that's incredibly popular among reviewers. It has over 44,000 reviews on Amazon with an average rating of 4.6 stars (34,000 of the reviews are 5-star reviews). It is also part of Amazon's early Prime Day deals, with a major 34% off discount right now.

The Good Housekeeping Institute called the Helix Dusk Luxe mattress "the goldilocks of mattresses." In other words, it is not too firm, yet not too soft. This medium firmness is ideal for combination sleepers that change positions often or for sleeping partners who have different needs from their mattress.

Another great option from Wayfair Sleep, this 14" hybrid mattress combines the support of a traditional coil mattress with the cozy softness of memory foam. It features six inches total of four different foam types that create a tall and plush top layer. It also has low motion transfer, making it a great choice for couples.

Bonus pick: The SoundAsleep Dream Series Air Mattress, our pick for the best overall air mattress, is also on sale for 4th of July. This air mattress is a cut above the rest — it features ComfortCoil Technology to provide firmness and support comparable to the mattress on your bed, and has a SureGrip coating on the bottom to ensure firmness and stability. It also has a built-in automatic air pump, so inflating the air mattress is a breeze. And all for just $150. Your summer guests will thank you!
