Several users raved about the overall firmness with one long-term user calling it "more comfortable than any mattress I've ever had in the past." Others also reported less back pain and highlighted the brand's helpful customer service. Users also noted that the mattress had better motion isolation than other mattresses they've owned, ensuring that they couldn't feel movement from sleeping partners. Tester notes: This brand received great ratings and feedback from our panel. Many users highlighted the excellent value of the mattress for the low price point. One user noted that this mattress feels "firm yet comfortable" and told us, "my children all agree that it is their favorite mattress." Another owner of the 8-inch version raved, "You won't find a better mattress for the price. The company is awesome, the mattress arrived 2 days after I placed the order and was in perfect condition!" Our panelists also reported that this mattress was easy to set up, taking less than five minutes to unbox and place on the bed frame.

Tester notes: Several users called the mattress "comfortable" and said it didn't cause any overheating compared to other memory foam mattresses they've tried. Compared to mattresses made with memory foam, latex can have a more springy or bouncy feel and contours to your body without feeling like you're sinking into your mattress. Because of the dense latex used, the mattress itself can feel more firm than our other picks, but if you prefer a plusher feel, Happsy offers a pillowtop mattress topper with two inches of soft latex.

What it's made of: Organic wool batting, 2 inches of organic latex, 8 inches of pocketed coils and organic cotton filling on the bottom all encased in an organic cotton outer cover without additional flame retardants or glue.

Tester notes: While this mattress might not have as many reviews on Amazon as our other picks, it received glowing reviews from members of our panel and high praise from our experts. Zinus is the most popular mattress brand on Amazon with an impressive 133,000 reviews and average 4.4 star rating for their Green Tea Memory Foam Mattress, the #1 best-selling mattress on Amazon. This model is made of several layers of memory foam to provide cradling pressure-relief, including a green tea and charcoal gel-infused contouring top layer that the brand says offers extra freshness and promotes spinal alignment. It's also offered in heights from 6" to 12" with different weight capacities, so you can choose between a higher or low profile bed.

What it's made of: 3 inches of contouring memory foam infused with Green Tea and charcoal, 2 inches of soft, perforated foam for airflow and 7 inches of high-density supportive base foam, all encased in a knit cover.

Tester notes: Over 120 members of our tester panel own a Zinus mattress, with the Green Tea Memory Foam option being the most popular model. The brand overall received mixed feedback, but a majority of users loved the cushioning feel of this model, with many praising how "comfortable" it felt. Many also appreciated the great motion isolation and the medium firm feel, with one user calling it "not. too hard and not too soft." The caveat is that many noted that the mattress lacks edge control, which we found in our own evaluations. Our testers reaffirmed the conclusions of our panelists and remarked that the mattress does contour to their bodies and offers good support but noted that it may not offer pain relief for every user. While we didn't notice it in our review, some owners also told us the initial smell can take a while to dissipate. Be aware: There’s currently a class-action lawsuit filed against Zinus, where users are saying they unzipped the mattress and found that fiberglass — which is sometimes used as a flame retardant inside of mattresses — is causing health issues and product damage. A Zinus spokesperson told Good Housekeeping that customers should follow label instructions, which includes not removing the outer mattress cover. Tester notes: Our panelists swear by this unique mattress over any others they've tried, calling it the perfect combination of soft and firm. When we evaluate the best mattresses on Amazon, we first poll our panel on ordering and delivery. Mattresses on Amazon are typically shipped directly to your home for DIY setup, rather than delivered with in-home setup. Users tell us how easy the mattress was to order and how quickly it arrived. They also have the chance to share any potential problems that came up in this process and explain if those issues were resolved. When the mattress arrives, our consumer testers and experts provide qualitative and quantitative feedback on the ease of setup, observing any pull tabs or instructions from the brand on how to safely expand the rolled up, compressed mattress. They also weigh in on how long it took the mattress to take proper shape once unwrapped compared to each brand's instructions (some mattresses can be slept on immediately while others may require a longer expansion period).

Our panel also provides feedback on the mattress's comfort, including firmness level (our analysts compare this feedback to claims from the brands), edge support, comfort and support, as well as how well they personally liked sleeping on them, both initially and over an extended period. We also ask reviewers to rate how comfortable their body temperature remained while sleeping on the mattress. Final scores check whether the mattress impacted sleep quality and whether or not users woke up feeling sore over time. Amazon's mattress return policy states that you can request a return or refund for any reason within 100 days of receiving your mattress, with returns only being available for unopened mattresses while unboxed or expanded options are eligible for a refund, but keep in mind that this policy only applies to mattresses directly shipped and sold from Amazon.
