Sleep retailer Metro Mattress has opened a new store in Greenwich, Conn., that features a Chattam & Wells boutique.
GREENWICH, Conn. – Specialty retailer Metro Mattress has opened a sleep store here that features the first Chattam & Wells boutique here.
Located on Putnam Avenue, the 2,500-square-foot store is located close to a high-end Duxiana store and other luxury retailers. The Chattam & Wells store-within-a-store concept is housed on the second floor in a 900-square-foot space.

The Metro Mattress store design was inspired by Spring Air International’s Chattam & Wells presentation in its Las Vegas Market showroom. The store features wood floors, a neutral color palette and a red carpet to showcase the seven Chattam & Wells mattresses.
The Chattam & Wells lineup was redesigned late last year, and the new designs were introduced at the January Las Vegas Market. The collection features a cotton velvet border and a Chesterfield pattern inspired by lifestyle retailer RH. The mattresses feature layers of silk damask, cashmere, Talalay latex and horse tail. The Chattam & Wells signature crown is incorporated into the panel with tone-on-tone stitching. Mattresses retail from $2,499 to $6,999 in queen.
Bill Spudis, president and CEO of the 54-store Metro Mattress, said that he plans to open other Chattam & Wells branded sleep boutiques in the future. Metro Mattress became one of Spring Air’s largest Chattam & Wells retailers in 2021.
“We’re eyeing affluent communities throughout the Northeast to showcase this luxury brand,” Spudis said. “The luxury consumer buys into craftsmanship, raw materials and high quality. I believe there is value to be found at every price point, and in the ultra-premium space that we’re playing in, we offer a better mattress than any other luxury brands out there.”
Spudis plans to use the Greenwich location to develop relationships with interior designers and decorators in the area and has begun the formation of a design coalition, starting outreach in-store events to introduce them to the brand.
“Affluent consumers in this market rarely do their own shopping; they trust designers to do it for them, so developing these relationships is crucial,” he said. “We romance the entire purchase experience, from the right merchandising to storytelling the tangible differences of the line.”
“We are very excited about what Bill and his team at Metro have created with the Chattam & Wells boutique,” said Nick Bates, president of Spring Air International. “I believe they have truly captured the essence of the brand and they have brought this concept into their other retail locations and have been selling our luxury line at an incredible pace.”
